Liberty to Freedom Swim 2012

On September 5th, 2012 the inaugural “Liberty to Freedom Swim”, dedicated to peace and freedom throughout the world, took place in New York Harbor.

This event was a solo effort by Martin Strel, one of the leading long distance swimmers in the world, with numerous long distance world records and firsts including swimming the length of the Amazon, The Mississippi and the Yangtze rivers. He is featured in the documentary “Big River Man” and is a frequent speaker at events around the globe related to peace and clean water.

Martin’s Swim from the Statue of Liberty to the Freedom Tower on September 5th was in commemoration of the 10 year anniversary of his 2,360 mile Swim of the entire length of the Mississippi River, which he dedicated to the victims and heroes of 9/11.
