Dock Share Program

Our modular docks have provided Wounded Warriors and the New York City Tri with safe access to local waterways.

Two top notch on water events in New York City, the Wounded Warriors Weekend water sports event at Gerritson Beach in Jamaica Bay, and the New York City Triathlon found themselves in a difficult situation. Post Sandy, the docks they typically used were compromised, and they were left in a position where they might not be able to stage their events.

“If you would be able to help you would be a life saver since we have pretty much run out of options at this point…” stated Sven Batvia of Miller’s Launch, the Staten Island based organization that provides on water staging for both of these events.

Urban Swim was happy to help.

According to Urban Swim founder, Deanne Draeger:

“To facilitate water access, we acquired modular docks that we configured for our events to maximize swimmer safety. As part of our vision for a community based “Dock Share” program, we reconfigured and redistributed our docks to our partners at the North Brooklyn Boat Club, and the Long Island City Community Boat Club so that they could provide easy access to the water for their free kayaking programs for their local communities.”

“Due to Sandy, many on water access points in the New York City area were affected. Fortunately, our “Dock Share” docks are ok, and will be reconfigured and installed as needed.”

“We are very proud to be able to support the Wounded Warriors Weekend and the NYC Tri in their efforts to provide safe access to local waterways for their events.”
